Andy Cowell has been appointed as the new Aston Martin team principal in a major management shake-up, while Mike Krack will take over as chief track specialist, the Silverstone-based Formula One team announced on Friday.
Former Mercedes engine chief Cowell joined Aston Martin as chief executive last year.
The Briton was managing director of Mercedes AMG GPP (High Performance Powertrains) during Mercedes’ dominance, which won a record eight consecutive constructors’ championship titles.
“The Aston Martin Aramco Formula 1 Team announces the restructuring of its senior management team as it continues its mission to be a championship-winning team,” the team said in a statement.
Former BMW Motorsport boss Krack will join Aston Martin as team principal in 2022 after previously working in Formula 1 with Swiss Sauber.
“For leadership clarity and as part of the transition to a flatter structure, Andy Cowell takes over the role of CEO and Team Principal with immediate effect…” Aston Martin added.
“The trackside team leader will be Mike Krack, as track director. Mike – who joined the team in 2022 as team principal – will continue to focus on extracting maximum performance from the car on the race track.”
Aston Martin, which finished fifth in the Constructors’ Championship in 2024, will switch from Mercedes to Honda engines from 2026 as the sport enters a new era with revised engine and aerodynamics regulations.
