Michael van Gerwen qualified for the 2025 finals PDC World Darts Championships on Thursday night, something he has already done seven times in his career. On Friday, he will face an exciting fight against the teenage phenom Łukasz Małyrwho also made it to the finals last year. Despite the talent of his opponent, Van Gerwen exudes confidence and self-belief before the final.
The clash between the experienced three-time world champion Van Gerwen and the young Littler is seen as a dream finale. With a convincing victory over Chris Dobey in the semi-final, Van Gerwen proved that he is in excellent form. He conveyed this belief at the press conference where he addressed the media after the match.

When NOS asked him who he thought was the favorite to win the world title, the Dutchman used the moment to show his confidence. “Who do you think you are? Don’t ask such stupid questions, right? Of course I’m the favorite,” he sounded confident. “Solely in terms of quality, as I have shown in recent years. And not only that, also the previous matches.”
However, Van Gerwen knows that despite a few strong games, he has nothing in hand yet. “We are still too far from the title, from this trophy. You have to stay yourself, keep your head up and be careful not to make any mistakes.”
At the start of the tournament, Van Gerwen called his upcoming opponent the biggest disappointment of the World Darts Championship. This was before Littler faced Ryan Joyce (4-3) in a high-stakes match, before the teenage sensation scored big victories over Nathan Aspinall (5-2) and Stephen Bunting (6-1) with averages well above 100.
Nevertheless, the Dutchman is not yet impressed with Littler’s performance. “He played the last matches OK, but that’s easy to say. Of course, this (quarter-final against Nathan Aspinall, ed.) was his best match because he had absolutely no opponent. Aspinall… I think my son would beat him, he wouldn’t throw shit.”
