Australia pace trio Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood included in supplementary list for BBL

Some of Australia’s top players, including Test captain Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc, will be able to participate in the Big Bash League from December 15 after registering as supplementary players.

After missing last season due to Test commitments, Cummins, Starc and Josh Hazlewood have opened up the possibility of appearing in the domestic T20 marquee event.

“Hazlewood and Starc have signed with Sydney Sixers under the league’s additional player rules, while Cummins will be included on Sydney Thunder’s support list,” reports cricket.com.au.

The additional list allows Big Bash clubs to sign Australian players on a central contract if they are available.

“Both Mitch and Josh are founding members of our club and have been a part of the Sixers for a long time, so any opportunity to engage them throughout the season is a victory for our club and a victory for our fans,” said Sixers General Manager Rachael Haynes.

“They both have a great relationship with (coach) Greg (Shipperd) and the playing group, and having them involved in any role will always be a boost to our group,” he added.

The pace trio are currently engaged in a very intense five-Test series (Border-Gavaskat Trophy) against India at home, with the score tied at 1-1 after the first two matches.

The Australian team will have the opportunity to play in Sri Lanka in late January to take part in two Tests. The results will be crucial to the team’s chances of qualifying for the World Test Championship final in June next year.
