Dani Olmo AND Pau Victor have received provisional registration to play, which is still being analyzed by Spain’s most important sports court Barcelonaagainst LaLiga and the Spanish Football Federation [RFEF].
Higher Sports Council [CSD] ruled that both Olmo and Víctor should be available for selection pending a final ruling in the case. None of the players were included in the squad for Barcelona’s 2-0 victory over Athletic Club on Wednesday in the Spanish Super Cup.
LaLiga said in a statement that it disagreed with CSD’s decision, adding that it was considering filing an appeal.
“The content of the resolution will be carefully studied in order to present appropriate appeals, without prejudice to the expression of total opposition to it,” it said.
After winning the Super Cup, manager Hansi Flick said he was a huge relief for his team ahead of the match.
“I’m really happy for these two guys, but I’m also happy for the whole team,” Flick said. “The information shows what was happening on the bus, it was good. I think the whole club is very happy with this decision, with this right decision.
“[Olmo and Victor] they are happy. Not only am I happy, they are happy too. It was a good signal for us before the match because everyone wants to show that we are a team and we win for them too.
Olmo and Wiktor both were unregistered by LaLiga on December 31 after Barça missed a deadline to prove it was complying with the league’s financial fair play rules [FFP] rules.
Ultimately, LaLiga confirmed this information Barça showed on January 3 that it is able to meet certain FFP requirements and therefore its “spending limit” was increased.
However, in a joint statement with the RFEF, LaLiga added that players whose registrations have been canceled cannot be re-registered with the club for a second time in the same season.
Barça appealed this decision to the CSD, challenging the interpretation of the rule, and on Tuesday submitted a 52-page report to the court along with its reasons.
It could take up to three months for the CSD to make a final decision, although sources don’t expect it to take that long, but in the meantime the court has ruled that both Olmo and Víctor can play for Barcelona – although it was too late they will feature in Wednesday’s semi-final Spanish Supercopa. They will be available to play in Sunday’s final against Real Madrid Or Majorca.
Both joined Barcelona permanently last summer but have only been signed on temporarily, under a rule that allows clubs to contribute up to 80% of the wages owed to an injured player – in this case Andreas Christensen – in the case of replacements.
