Barcelona forward Laminy Yamal will miss Saturday’s important match against Atlético Madrid and potentially a Classic against Real Madrid in the final of the Spanish Supercopa after being ruled out for up to four weeks due to an ankle ligament injury he suffered in the loss to Leganes.
The 17-year-old suffered an injury in the first half of the match Sunday’s shocking defeatbut he played until the 75th minute when he was finally replaced by Gavi.
The problem is in the same ankle that hurt in victory over Red Star Belgrade on November 6, which caused him to miss three games for Barcelona and two of them Spain before returning to action against Palm trees on November 30.
“The tests carried out on Monday showed that Yamal has a ligament injury in his ankle,” the Catalan club confirmed in a statement. “He is expected to be out for three to four weeks.”
As a result, Barça will be without Yamal during Saturday’s top-of-the-table clash with Atlético at the Olympic Stadium. Both teams enter this match on points as co-leaders in LaLiga, although Atlético still have one match left to play.
LaLiga then stops for its winter break, with Barça no longer in action until they face fourth-placed Barbastro in the league King’s Cup it’s january 4.
Then they will go to Saudi Arabia for the Spanish Super Cup, where they will face the Spanish national team Sports Club in the semi-final on January 8. It is unlikely that Jamal will perform in the Middle East.
Barça will not feature in LaLiga competition again until he takes the field Getafe on the weekend of January 18, although the exact date of this meeting has not yet been confirmed.
Yamal, who helped Spain win the European Championship last summer, has been one of Barcelona’s standout players since Hansi Flick took over at the start of the season.
In 21 appearances in all competitions, the winger scored six goals and set up another 11 as part of a productive attack Rafinha AND Robert Lewandowski.
