“I’m very happy to be back on the field, it was important for me because I worked really hard,” Benasar told reporters at the post-match press conference.

“Recovering from such an injury is never easy.

“It was a special match for me, we didn’t lose focus and managed our emotions well. We could have gone ahead, but we could have conceded a goal, in the end we didn’t lose.

“We have to look ahead because there is an important goal to prepare for in the coming days.

The 27-year-old played his only minutes under coach Paulo Fonseca on his Serie A debut against Torino and returned for the Portuguese manager’s last match in charge.

Asked if he found ‘problems’ in the team, Benasar admitted that they had ‘lost continuity’ and needed to regain their ‘winning spirit’.

“I wouldn’t say there are problems within the team,” the midfielder continued.

“We have new players, some of them are young and the more experienced players depend on us to push the team forward. We lost some consistency, but we need to find our winning spirit again.

“For that, we just need work, patience and the will to look forward.”

The Rossoneri have won just two of their last five Serie A games and are now eighth in the standings.
