Bochum will lodge a protest with the German Football Association after their goalkeeper Patrik Drewes hit a lighter in the Bundesliga draw. Union Berlin On Saturday, the teams returned to the field to finish the match without scoring a goal.
With the game level at 1-1 and going into overtime, the 31-year-old Drewes was hit by a lighter thrown from the crowd, causing him to fall to the ground. “He is currently being taken to hospital where he will be fully checked again, and then we will wait and see,” said Bochum’s coach, Dieter Hecking.
Referee Martin Pietersen stopped the match and separated the teams. They later returned to the pitch but Bochum had to substitute striker Philipp Hoffmann in goal for the rest of the match as all their options had already been used.
“In our opinion, the game should have been abandoned. We ended the match in protest and will make an appeal on Monday,” Bochum managing director Ilja Koenzig told Sky Germany.
Both sides agreed not to attack at the last minute, so they shared the spoils. The referee confirmed the deal, saying: “It was an agreement between the two teams. The parties have to ask about it. I have nothing to do with it.”

According to union spokesman Christian Arbeit, the police later said: “The culprit has been identified and handed over to the police. A report has already been filed.”
