The few certainties that golf fans could count on over the past two years include:
1. There is no end in sight to the PGA Tour-PIF negotiations.
And 2. Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee has he didn’t taste any sympathy for LIV Golf.
The latest example of these two truths came with last week’s announcement LIV and Fox have reached an agreement to televise LIV events.
A multi-year agreement, which was first reported by the portal Sports business journalmarks a big victory for LIV. It also represents a loss for anyone hoping the PGA Tour-PIF deal would lead to the shutdown of the fledgling league.
Whether a final agreement is close to completion or not, LIV doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.
Chamblee, of course, noted a significant update in the years-long battle between LIV and the PGA Tour, and then went to X to express his strong opinion on the matter.
“I look forward to seeing the concrete financial results,” Chamblee wrote of the LIV-FOX deal for X, continuing: “did Fox pay a rights fee or was it a repeat purchase.”
Chamblee addressed how television’s normal contracts with sports leagues work. Typically, a television network pays a large fee to the league for the rights to broadcast its events.
However, LIV’s previous television deal with the CW did not include a rights fee. Instead, the two organizations brokered the deal as part of a revenue-sharing arrangement.
While no financial details of the new LIV-Fox deal are officially known, it is believed that Fox will pay a rights fee to LIV as part of the deal.
User X responded to Chamblee, criticizing him for never having a positive opinion of LIV. Chamblee replied: “Why would someone who is not paid to hide his objectivity would “cover” LIV in a positive way. The money comes from the sewage and the product smells worse than the source.”
The LIFE 2025 golf season will officially start on February 7-12 in Saudi Arabia.
