Retired footballer Joey Barton has been charged over allegations relating to social media posts.
Barton (41) faces two charges of sending malicious messages regarding BBC presenter Jeremy Vine and former English footballer Lucy Ward.
Cheshire Police said Mr Barton, originally from Huyton in Merseyside but now from Widnes in Cheshire, will appear before a magistrates’ court on a date yet to be set.
The midfielder played for clubs such as Manchester City, Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Burnley and Rangers, and after retiring he took over as manager.
