The Super-Feather Wweight Boxer John Cooney is in intensive care after the defeat of Welshman Nathan Howells in Belfast on Saturday.
The competition was detained in the ninth round in Ulster Hall in the first defense of Celtic Celtic title Super Feather in weight.
The 28-year-old was assessed by the medical team in the ring in the ring before he was taken on a stretcher and transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast for further treatment.
In the statement on Monday, the promoter Cooney, Mark Dunlop, said that his warrior suffered “intracranial hemorrhage and underwent immediate surgery to relieve the pressure on the brain.”
He added: “John is currently in the intensive care unit and in the talented hands of the Hospital of the ICU.”
Galway Boxer won the Celtic title with victory in the first round with Liam Gaynor in November 2023 in the sold -out 3aren in Dublin, at Undercard of Katie Taylor’s Revenge victory over Chantelle Cameron.
Then Cooney spent a year outside the ring, recovering after his hand injury before he returned to Tampla Maharusi from Tanzania in October 2024 in London.
Before meeting with Howells, he trained with the former chapter to the world title Zelfa Barrett in Manchester.
