Captain Justin Rose says speculation about Tom McKibbin’s future is not a problem as Great Britain and Ireland prepare for this week’s Team Cup.
Earlier this week It turned out that the Irishman from Northern Ireland would join LIV Golf in a shocking move just two months after he earned his first PGA Tour card.
McKibbin, who is expected to join Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII team, declined to comment on his future on Wednesday.
“I think we are all aware of that. It hasn’t been confirmed to me, but it hasn’t been denied either,” Rose told BBC golf correspondent Iain Carter ahead of the start of the Ryder Cup-style competition in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
“The team room is the team room this week and all the boys are here this week.”
The former world number one said players have become accustomed to speculation about their peers joining LIV Golf since the establishment of the Saudi-backed circuit in 2022.
“I think this is all going to happen in the future and we’re used to this narrative in golf that has been going on for the last few years, but it’s been shaky for a while,” Rose added.
“We’re all used to it. “My team is just happy to be here in the Middle East – what a great place to start the season – and they are working their asses off and want to have a fantastic start to their individual season.”
