The Australian seamen secured control in the third Test against India despite rain decimating most of the third day in Brisbane.
The hosts added 40 runs on both sides of the match to their score of 405-7, and Alex Carey finished the score at 70:00.
India’s response was delayed by further rain before the score dropped to 22-3.
Yashasvi Jaiswal hit Mitchell Starc with four hits off the first ball of the innings but was caught in the next ball at mid-wicket.
Shubman Gill was brilliantly caught at gully by Mitchell Marsh before Virat Kohli caught Josh Hazlewood.
The rain returned as Rishabh Pant went to the crease and then most of the afternoon and evening sessions were marred by more rain, a wet pitch and poor lighting.
There were four innings of cricket – each lasting 11, 23, 7 and 17 balls respectively.
Pant was dismissed in the third over, off Pat Cummins, before KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma took India to 51-4 at stumps.
Although 98 overs can be bowled on each of the remaining days, it may be difficult to achieve this number more rainfall forecasts.
After five games in the series, the score is 1-1 Australian win by 10 wickets in Adelaide last week.
India need to win at least two of the last three Tests to guarantee a place in the final of the World Test Championship at Lord’s in June.
Defending champions Australia will advance to the final if they win two of the remaining tests.
