MLS apologise to Celtic & Kyogo for signing mistake

Celtic and Kyogo Furuhashi have received an apology from Major League Soccer after incorrectly stating that the Japanese striker had joined Atlanta United.

The American club, coached by former Celtic manager Ronny Delia, has recently been linked with a move for the 29-year-old, whose contract runs until 2027.

On Wednesday, an article was published on the MLS website saying that Atlanta had “acquired” Kyogo and then quickly removed it.

Around the same time, Atlanta announced that they had signed former Japan youth international Cayman Togashi.

In a statement released to the Press Association, the MLS league said it “mistakenly published an article that listed the wrong player as having signed with an MLS club.”

They added: “The article was immediately removed and corrected. MLS extends its sincere apologies to the affected parties.”
