While no deal has been agreed that would allow Anderson to continue as England coach next summer, it is understood that Ben Stokes’ side are eager for his return.
England’s next Test will be against Zimbabwe on May 22, followed by the much-awaited five-Test series against India from June 20.
Lancashire, who were relegated from the First Division last season, have six county championship games before the Zimbabwe test.
Anderson played once for Lancashire last season, before bidding farewell to his Lord, and won 7-35 against Nottinghamshire in the first innings.
Anderson retired after England decided to look to the future with their bowling attack and left the international scene with 704 Test wickets – the most by a pace bowler.
His first-class tally stands at 1,126, with 376 of those appearances for Lancashire in 95 games since his debut in 2002.
Anderson has not played white-ball cricket since 2019, with his last T20 match coming in 2014.
