Callum Wilson Frustrates Newcastle With Further Injury Setback

Callum Wilson has endured another setback after enduring a difficult time with injury while playing for Newcastle on Tyneside.

Wilson injured again

Wilson has missed around 85 games since joining Newcastle from Bournemouth in 2020, a number that will continue to grow as the English striker suffers another setback.

Wilson recently returned from a preseason injury. He made four consecutive appearances as a substitute for the Toons before announcing the bad news on social media.

Wilson wrote: “Despite all the efforts I have put in to return to full health, unfortunately, I need to take a step back.

“While it’s frustrating for everyone waiting for me to come back and be able to help the team, these shortcomings also upset and frustrated me more than anyone else.

“I will and am doing everything in my power to rediscover the best version of myself and finally escape this emotional rollercoaster, which I hope will happen in 2025. Thank you to all those closest to me who know that I work How hard I work and how professional I have always been.”

How long will Wilson be out now?

Wilson suffered some hamstring discomfort after being substituted against Brentford. The 32-year-old subsequently underwent scans which revealed the strain was serious enough to rule him out until at least mid-February.

In 112 games for the club, Wilson scored 48 goals, nine of which came in 20 Premier League games last season.

It’s worth mentioning that Wilson will become a free agent in July and the club may be hesitant to extend his contract and pay further wages for a forward with such an injury history.

Newcastle had hoped to rotate between Alexander Isak and Wilson given the tight festive schedule. However, they must now risk Isak playing the full 90 minutes while waiting for Wilson to recover.
