Adding another level of success to quarterback Kurtis Rourke’s final college season.
The Canadian, who played at Indiana University, finished ninth in the Heisman Trophy voting, with the fifth through 10th spots announced on Friday. Winners will be announced Saturday at 8pm ET / 5pm PT.
Lock, who is from Oakville, Ont., is the first top 10 finisher in voting for college football’s most prestigious award since Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard finished eighth in 2020 Canadian.
No Canadian has ever won the Heisman Trophy.
But Lock’s season isn’t over yet. His Indians (11-1) will travel to South Bend, Ind., to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-1) on Dec. 20 to open the expanded playoff bracket.
Locke played an important role at Indiana, traditionally known as a basketball school, becoming a Big Ten contender in head coach Curt Cignetti’s first season.
Lock completed 202 of 287 passes (70.4%) for 2,827 yards, 27 touchdowns and just four interceptions in 11 games. Last week, he was named a finalist for the Manning Award, given annually to the top quarterback in college football.
After five years at Ohio University, he transferred to Indiana in December to improve his NFL draft stock. There, he started as backup for older brother Nathan, then went on to win the 2022 MAC Offensive Player of the Year award despite suffering a season-ending knee injury before heading to Indiana after the 2023 season.
A win over Notre Dame would continue Indiana’s stellar run, while a loss would mark the end of Locke’s college career.
