Cardiff City intends to loan Ajax midfielder Sivert Mannsverk until the end of the season.
The 22-year-old Norwegian has already completed treatment and agreed personal terms with the Welsh club.
Mannsverk, who has only made two league appearances for Ajax this season due to injury, could make his debut for the Bluebirds against Leeds United in Saturday’s Championship match.
His arrival is timely for Cardiff, who are without midfielders Aaron Ramsey and David Turnbull due to long-term injuries.
Mannsverk will be Cardiff’s second signing of the January transfer window, following the arrival of striker Yousef Salech from Swedish side Sirius.
Senior club sources indicate that players may need to be sold for Cardiff to make further signings.
The Bluebirds, unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions, are 18th in the Championship.
