Mcilroy will start his first PGA Tour in 2025 at Pebble Beach Pro-AM this week and warned against making too many changes to imitate what is offered elsewhere.
“I don’t think we’re trying to cheat Golf to appeal to more people,” he said.
“Golf is a turtleneck at the end of the day. It has been like that for hundreds of years. You know, I really like Golf and I think that many other people too, but I still understand criticism, like a criticism like how criticism of how a entertainment product can be better.
“I hope that people consider it funny, and if not, I don’t know what to tell them.”
One of the lasting criticism of PGA Tour events in recent weeks was the pace of the game, but the four -time main winner admitted that there are no easy solutions.
As a characteristic event, the field will be limited to 80 in Pebble Beach this week, but such numbers in the whole season would refuse to other opportunities.
“There are many different answers, but not every answer will make everyone happy,” he said.
“I could say smaller fields. Smaller fields, smaller fields would help at the pace of the game, but this takes the possibilities of playing people. I also think that the second place, when we play at this time of year, the times of the T -shirt are to be a little tighter together so that they can survive the daylight and everything.
“If you could thin a little more times, I hope everything will be better.”
