KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Bosses on Monday he decided against returning Clyde Edwards-Helairea former first-round draft pick who fell far down on their depth chart.
Edwards-Helaire suggested this move in a message sent to X.
“I love you, KC!” – wrote Edwards-Helaire. “The family I didn’t know I needed, you all made a Baton Rouge kid’s dreams come true!
“To Chiefs Kingdom, all the love and support I have received during difficult times will forever be unmatched by you! With love!”
Edwards-Helaire, who hasn’t played this season, was fifth of five running backs on the Chiefs’ lineup, followed by Isiah Pacheco, Kareem Hunt, Samaje Perine AND Carson Steele. The Chiefs will need a roster spot soon.
Wide receiver Hollywood brown he returned to training last week and could be activated from injured reserve ahead of Saturday’s game against Liverpool Houston, Texas at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs acquired Edwards-Helaire from LSU in 2020. He led the team in rushing that season with 803 yards, but his production declined each year. He lost his starting spot to Pacheco in the 2022 season and never regained it.
Edwards-Helaire spoke during this year’s training camp about their experiences with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). this stems from an incident that occurred in 2018 when he was in college.
Police said two LSU football players were trying to sell electronics when one of them fatally shot an 18-year-old who was trying to rob them. Police did not identify the players, but the Associated Press did reported that Edwards-Helaire was one of them.
Edwards-Helaire sometimes missed practices during his tenure with the Chiefs to deal with his condition. The Chiefs placed him on the non-football illness list to start the season before his activation.
“Sometimes I end up in the hospital, it’s like, I can’t stop throwing up and I just… [don’t] know [anything] actually to stop it,” Edwards-Helaire said in August. “Really bad dehydration… but really it’s just mental imbalance.”
