Chris Eubank Jr.’s long-awaited, grudge-filled fight. with Conor Benn is coming to an end and it will be a stadium hit in April, says promoter Eddie Hearn.
The bitter rivals have been locked in negotiations in recent weeks, but Hearn, who represents Benn, believes an agreement can finally be reached in the coming days.
According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has been chosen as the venue for the event, although the venue has not yet been confirmed and the date given is April 26.
“I think we either get it done this week or we don’t,” Hearn told Sky Sports. “His Excellency [Turki Al-Sheikh, chair of General Authority for Entertainment in Saudi Arabia] he’s made it clear that this is a fight he wants to see and is willing to get involved in, which helps because it allows him to sit in the middle and negotiate with both sides.
“If I had negotiated with Eubank, to be honest, I don’t think this fight would have happened. Fortunately, this is not the case.
“We are getting close to the finish line. It’s not over yet, but we hope it will be a stadium hit in April.”
Hearn added: “If everyone was sensible, I would be 100 per cent [confident the fight happens]. But this is boxing and no one is reasonable. Watch this space.”
Eubank Jr. fight against Benn in October 2022 was canceled when his opponent tested positive for the banned substance clomiphene.
Benn’s license was revoked by the British Boxing Board of Control, but the suspensions were lifted in November this year after the National Anti-Doping Panel said it was “not entirely satisfied” that the 28-year-old had committed an anti-doping offence.
Benn’s pardon paved the way for Eubank Jr. and Benn, sons of great British rivals Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn, to reignite their own rivalry in the ring.
