Financial problems and uncertainty surrounding takeovers have left Everton struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League table in recent years and it’s been a similar story this campaign.
The club is in 16th place and just three points above the relegation zone.
Dyche’s contract expires at the end of the season and when asked about his future he said: “Winning games always puts you in a good position. Other than that he [Watts] Face to face made it clear, they have nothing but support from me, the staff and the team. But you have to win the game, it’s a natural process.
“From today’s chat it’s like a business approach, it’ll be hands-off and [a philosophy of] You’re there for a reason.”
Watts also spoke about the importance of the women’s team under the Friedkin Group and the success of Roma’s women since taking charge of the Serie A side in 2020, winning both the league title twice and the Coppa Italia.
Despite the arrival of the club’s wealthy new owners, Dyche suggested spending on the men’s team in the January transfer window would be modest rather than lavish.
Last season, Everton were deducted a total of eight points for breaching the league’s financial rules and Dyche has had to deal with strict spending restrictions since taking over in January 2023.
Since the 2021-22 campaign, Everton are the only Premier League side with a positive net spend, while at the other end of the scale, Sunday’s opponents Chelsea have the most negative net spend.
Speaking at his press conference ahead of the match, Dyche said: “Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) is not about money or money, it’s about rules.
“There’s only so much that can be done with the immediate, they know. There’s the ongoing challenge of fixing things moving forward for the larger future. PSR will dominate January from past years.”
