Stewart said the men’s team had “turned around the season” and had shown “real progress” after being nine points behind Aberdeen at one point.
“The signings we made in the summer are really starting to put to bed and play with a bit of confidence,” added Stewart, per the club’s media outlet.
“In fairness to Philip, he said it was always going to take time.”
Joe Potter’s women’s side are second in the SWPL, two points adrift of Glasgow City and Stewart praised their consistency and said they are “right up there challenging for the league title”.
Fraser Thornton also started on Monday and Stewart said the non-executive chairman would be “a step removed” from his own role.
“Every day, I’ll be at the club, managing the club, looking after operational matters,” Stewart said.
Clement spoke of an incident during Sunday’s League Cup final, which Rangers lost to Celtic on penalties after a 3-3 draw, when Vaclav Cerny was fouled near the edge of the box by Celtic’s Liam Scales.
A free-kick was awarded but Clement indicated that Rangers could be awarded a penalty instead.
And Stewart said: “I have spoken to the SFA to seek an explanation about not awarding penalties in extra time. I will wait to hear what the SFA say about that.”
