Shields will take on the undefeated Danielle Perkins in a heavyweight bout at Dort Financial Center in Flint, Michigan. Shields will be looking to defend his WBC heavyweight title, with the vacant IBF and WBO heavyweight titles also at stake.
Shields, 29, will return home again. This will be her second race in Flint, Michigan, although most of her career has been played near Detroit, Michigan. Shields, who turned pro nearly nine years ago in November 2016, has been part of the transformation in women’s boxing. Shields’ next assignment is to fight Perkins, a 42-year-old American heavyweight boxer from Houston via Brooklyn, New York.
“I’m super excited to face Danielle Perkins,” Shields said. “My last opponent, Vanessa [Lepage-Joanisse]is someone we value very much. Now, we have a better opponent, Danielle. She has a gorgeous background and is tall and big. I’m looking forward to a full on battle with her. ”
What Shields doesn’t often talk about is her optimism and hope. People in big cities see boxers in their areas achieve great success. Flint enjoyed considerable success in boxing alongside Shields and the Dirrell brothers, Andre and Anthony.

As for Perkins, Shields calmly expressed her expectations for fight night using an old adage.

Shields also believes that Perkins, who holds a record of 5-0 (2 KOs), may be the one overlooking her.
“I’m not ignoring Danielle,” Shields said. “In a weird way, I think she was ignoring me. She thought Lepage-Joanisse had no chance and she was slow. Lepage-Joanisse was the heavyweight world champion. Lepage-Joanisse had 12 weeks to prepare for me , and told me to quit. I had no intention of moving up to heavyweight.”
For Shields promoter Dmitry Salita, this upcoming fight is another important milestone as he believes Shields will become undisputed in the third division later this year champion, thus making history.
“This fight marks another historic chapter for Clarissa Shields as she competes for the undisputed heavyweight world title,” Salita said. “Shields will challenge to become the first boxer to be undisputed world champion in three weight classes.”
