WSL: Five things to look out for on return from winter break

The returning WSL weekend will conclude with a heavyweight clash between Manchester City and Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday at 18:45 GMT.

City have beaten Marc Skinner’s side twice in the 2023-24 season, beating the Reds 3-1 in both league games.

United have never beaten Manchester City in the WSL, with their only win over Citizens coming in May 2023 with the scoreline 2-1.

However, heading into the latest derby, the Reds are on top after winning all three games in December.

United have lost just once in the league so far this season, while City – second in the WSL – have been beaten twice.

They suffered back-to-back defeats to Everton and Barcelona in the Champions League before the winter break, but Gareth Taylor supported his players in their return to form.

“We were frustrated by the defeat against Everton, but something like this can happen,” he said.

“This group of players usually performs well in the second half of the season. We know we are capable of it and we will have to do it. There is certainly still much to be done. The margins are really big tight.”
