Sales coach Alex Sanderson says most coaches believe an all-out blitz defense is too easy to overcome following the announcement that England will ditch the tactic for the Six Nations.
England’s extremely aggressive line speed during the summer tour of New Zealand limited the All Blacks to four tries in two Tests.
However, defense coach Felix Jones left shortly afterwards and England were more distrustful in the autumn, conceding an average of four tries per match in defeats against New Zealand, Australia and South Africa.
Daily Mail Report, external that Jones’ successor, Joe El-Abd, will use the pre-tournament training camp in Girona to change his tactics, with the attackers adopting a more cautious but coordinated approach.
Sanderson led the Saracens defense before taking over the top job at Sale, who conceded the fewest tries in last season’s Premiership.
“I think even South Africa, who are famous for it, have gotten a little bit done with it,” he said of the world champions’ commitment to blitzing attacks.
