Does Cobra’s FF33 hosel need 33 settings? What a designer says

Cobra gave hardware geeks an early Christmas when the OEM abandoned its products Product line 2025 early with the December release of DS-ADAPT.

By far the most groundbreaking of innovations in DS-ADAPT track woods and hybrids was the FutureFit33 (FF33) hosel, which offers 33 different settings to adjust the clubhead position and height to suit the golfer’s needs. DS-ADAPT poles can be adjusted plus or minus two degrees for both rise and lie angle while maintaining a square club face.

However, with so many options, you have to wonder whether 33 settings is overkill or whether the many settings are a deterrent to the average golfer, the vast majority of whom do not use adjustable driver settings.

On a recent episode of GOLF’s “Fully Outfitted,” Cobra vice president of architecture Jose Miraflor he explained to co-hosts Kris McCormack and Wadeh Maroun that a player will actually only try out a few settings before choosing the right one for them.

“Once you know which quadrant you’re missing, move to the opposite quadrant,” Moraflor said, referring to the setup chart that can be viewed via a QR code in the DS-ADAPT club snake. “Now if you pick two or three, opposite, and you’ll go back to A1 [standard loft and lie]you will need to try maybe two to three, maximum four settings.

For example, if you find that you are hitting the ball high and right, we suggest finding a quadrant for high and right (B6), then moving to the most extreme setting in the opposite quadrant (F2) and testing that and the three surrounding ones (F1, F3, and G1 ).

But this method can typically miss indoor settings, which have changes of just a few tenths of a degree with loft and position changes. But these are setups that were key to Cobra’s staff of Tour players.

“I got to work with the tour team, shoot commercials and do a photo shoot,” Miraflor said. “Now I work with Rick [Folwer]Lexy [Thompson]and Gary [Woodland]and other players who become part of the family, you realize that they do not benefit from the outside at all. So for most golfers who will use the outside circles and take advantage of the adjustability, for the better amateur it will be the one in the middle.

“And for our professional tour operators, these are the hardest. So when we talked to them and asked them what you would change about your ball flight, they pointed to the inner circle. So now we’ll just go to the opposite side.
