Traditionally, right after the final PDC World Darts Championshipsparticipants field for Dart Premier League is announced. For Peter WrightAn invitation to a traveling darting roadshow has been a formality for over a decade. However, in the perspective of 2025, its place is much less certain.
Wright has always featured in the Premier League Darts since 2014, and in 2017 he reached the final, which he somehow managed to lose to Michael van Gerwen, having had multiple match darts rejected. However, after a down year in 2024, ‘Snakebite’ has dropped to 12th place in the world rankings, and selection to the Premier League Darts in 2025 seems unlikely. After two very difficult seasons in the Premier League in 2023 and 2024, the question is whether it would actually be beneficial for Wright to sit out this year?

“It would be good if he missed a year in the Premier League.” Jaco Van Bodegommanager of the Toto Dart Kings team, assessed Wright’s situation in the podcast “Darts Goes On”. “On the other hand, if he’s sidelined for a year, why will he play anymore? Then he’ll have plenty of Pro Tours to look forward to. “They will still invite him to the World Series of Darts, but from a career point of view it would be good for Wright to take 17 weeks off.”
Peter Wright showed he still has the magic by beating Luke Humphries at the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship
The unwritten rule is that the top four players in the world rankings are invariably invited to the Premier League, in addition, the Sky Sports rights holder can select two players, and the PDC also has two wild cards to give away. “I spoke to Matt Porter, the head of the PDC. Who said the top four are not automatically guaranteed a place in the Premier League Darts. This is not a rule, but it has always been done this way. In that case, the current number four invitee, Rob Cross, would be the most uncertain invitee,” Van Bodegom continued. “Numbers one, two and three (Luke Humphries, Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen) are ‘almost certain’.”
