England flanker Sam Underhill is out for the Six Nations due to injury after Bath announced he requires ankle surgery.
The 28-year-old suffered an ankle injury at Bath’s Defeat 35-34 to Premiership champions Northampton on Sunday.
Bath has issued an updated medical report stating that he will “undergo surgery to repair a new ankle injury”, with “no set timeline for his recovery”.
After being left out of England’s original 2023 Rugby World Cup squad, Underhill has established himself as a regular in Steve Borthwick’s squad as an open flanker.
He has started every match for England since the 2023 World Cup and played in last autumn’s defeats to South Africa and Japan, scoring tries on both occasions.
It was an ankle injury that ruled out Underhill, who had 40 caps, in the first two autumn Tests against New Zealand and Australia.
