Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis has been named the World Sports Star of the Year 2024 by BBC Sports Personality.
Duplantis – better known as Mondo – is considered the greatest pole vaulter of all time, and 2024 broke another record.
25-year-old defended his Olympic title in Paris – become the first men’s pole vault champion since the 1950s.
In this way, he broke both the Olympic and world records – the latter for the ninth time in his career, and the second time this year.
Later, in August, he broke the world record again, setting a new record at the Diamond League meeting in Silesia of 6.26 mand also won her second indoor world title and third European gold in 2024.
“I’m honored to win the World Sports Personality of the Year award,” Duplantis told BBC One.
“I’m very sorry I couldn’t be there. I’m back in the States and training for the upcoming season.
“This award really means a lot to me.”
