Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is banned from bowling in international cricket after failing to undergo an independent review of his performance.
Shakib was 37 years old suspended from England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) bowling competitions. after an investigation was launched into his bowling during his only appearance for Surrey in the County Championship last season.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) subsequently confirmed that the ban had been extended to all domestic cricket competitions outside Bangladesh and to international cricket.
On Saturday, the BCB said Shakib had failed his re-evaluation last month in Chennai, India, but added that he could play as a specialist batsman in all forms of cricket.
Shakib had earlier said he planned to retire from international cricket after the Champions Trophy in March, but Bangladesh must now decide whether to select him as a stand-alone batsman in their 15-man squad for the 50-over tournament.
Former Tigers captain Shakib played 71 Tests, 247 one-day internationals and 129 T20s for Bangladesh.
He has now retired from T20 international competition and is almost certainly playing his last Test for Bangladesh, for whom there is no next Test scheduled before the start of the Champions Trophy on February 19.
The slow left-hander was suspended from bowling in December after tests at Loughborough University showed his elbow extension exceeded the 15-degree threshold allowed by ECB rules.
His behavior was noticed by on-field officials during Surrey’s match against Somerset in September.
