Dortmund boss Sahin gives injury update on Adeyemi before clash against Hoffenheim

Borussia Dortmund striker Karim Adeyemi is training well and could play in Sunday’s home match against Hoffenheim after rehabilitating from a muscle injury, head coach Nuri Sahin said.

The 22-year-old German international, who was an unused substitute in Dortmund’s 3-2 home defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday, has been sidelined since suffering an injury in October.

Tormented by injuries, Dortmund, which is missing defenders Nico Schlotterbeck, Niklas Sule and Waldemar Anton, is sixth in the Bundesliga table with 21 points after 13 games, 12 points behind leader Bayern Munich.

“Karim already wanted to play against Barcelona. He trains very well and his game is very stable. He looks fresh and is definitely a candidate for the last two games this year,” Sahin told reporters.

Dortmund will play its last match of the year on December 22 against VfL Wolfsburg, which is fifth in the table.

Sahin was unsure whether defender Julian Ryerson, attacking midfielder Julian Brandt and striker Maximilian Beier would be available.

“We still have to wait and see what happens with Ryerson, Brandt and Beier. Tomorrow we have our last training session and then we will decide who will start alongside Emre Can in central defense,” Sahin said.

Sahin expects a tough test against Hoffenheim, who are 14th in the table with 13 points.

“We have analyzed Hoffenheim thoroughly. We know what we are facing… But now we are focusing on ourselves and our game,” he said.
