DP World Tour member Marco Penge has been suspended for two months after track officials discovered he had been placing bets on multiple events.
The tour organizers’ disciplinary committee found that the 26-year-old Englishman had not placed any bets on himself or during the tournament days when he competed, stating that “the integrity of such events was not compromised.”
However, Penge still violated the tour’s integrity program and was suspended until mid-February. He was also fined approximately $2,500. His sentences were reduced due to his cooperation and immediate admission of the violations, the tour said. The suspension took effect on December 13.
Penge, who last played in the Australian Open in late November, is ranked 414th in the world and is coming off a year in which he missed 19 cuts in 28 events. He recently appeared on DP World Tour’s social media channels after making a 5-foot par putt on his final hole to qualify for the Genesis Championship and gain a chance to secure playing privileges for 2025. He called the putt the most nervous he’s ever been in his career – “To be honest, I was pissed off,” he said.
Penge ultimately finished 110thvol in the year-round Race to Dubai rankings, enough to keep your card.
Penge has not yet publicly commented on the suspension.
