Promoter Eddie Hearn says his recent working relationship with Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren is a career highlight.
The two have feuded for more than a decade, taking turns speaking out against each other, often through YouTube channels that are almost exclusively “Frank said…” and “Eddie said…”.
Now, under the umbrella of Riyadh Season, they work together regularly, and in June, the five fighters competed in a stable-versus-stable 5-on-5 match that got the boxing world buzzing.
It wasn’t always like this for Hearn in the boxing world, and he still has competitors. Nakisa Bidallian and Oscar De La Hoya won’t be on Hearn’s Christmas card list, though he’s in discussions with Bidallian to make Katie Taylor-Amanda Serrano III .
“Sometimes you meet people and spend time with them…like building a relationship with Warren. I met Ben Shalom on Tuesday night when you really sit down with people… …. [and it’s] with IFL [TV] ‘He said this, he said this, ‘You know what I mean? It creates cracks. So now, I’m really enjoying working with Frank. Like, that’s probably one of the most enjoyable things I’ve ever done in my boxing career. “
However, Hearn is also aware that not everyone in America agrees with his ideas or methods.
“I think, at the end of the day, I’m very outspoken,” he said. “I think one of the problems is that Americans don’t really understand British sarcasm. So sometimes the humor gets lost in translation. It’s all part of the game. I actually said make it better The other day, “What did you do for the Netflix show? [Tyson-Paul] It’s incredible. It’s not like I don’t know how to praise others. Will Hearn soon work as seamlessly with Shalom as he did with Warren? By this point, Warren and Hearn had formed a powerful alliance, but Shalom was not part of the inner circle.
“He’s young and inexperienced,” Hearn said. “Everyone’s at a stage. I’ve been through it, I’ve been through a lot of stuff, and you become immune to everything. At the moment… it’s him against the world. People are insulting him and he’s like, ‘Fuck.’ But this That’s actually what comes with it, which is actually a good sign.”
