Sean Dyche has been sacked as manager Everton– the club confirmed on Thursday.
Dyche took over from Frank Lampard in 2023. Although Dyche led Everton out of the league in the following seasons amid financial problems, a combination of poor form and an uninspiring style of football saw the Merseyside side struggle.
Everton is 16th in the table First leaguehe scored just 15 goals in 19 games. Only the lower ones Southampton less succeeded.
Just three hours before Peterborough’s FA Cup third round visit, a club statement was released with club captain Seamus Coleman and former player Leighton Baines temporarily replacing him.
A statement read: “Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as manager of the senior men’s first team with immediate effect.
“[Coaches] Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer also left the club.
“The process of appointing a new manager is ongoing and we will announce this in due course.
“Under 18s head coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman will take over first team duties on an interim basis.”
Everton were linked with a move for Graham Potter before he joined West HamUnited in such motion also confirmed on Thursday.
The club’s announcement comes less than a month after the decision of the American company Friedkin Group completed his takeover club. Executive chairman Marc Watts said the American ownership group was “committed to leading Everton into an exciting new era both on and off the pitch.”
After 132 years at Goodison Park, Everton will move to a new riverside stadium in Liverpool next season.
