Ex-Juventus star Pogba speaks after brother sentenced for shocking 13 milllion extortion attempt

Former Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba says he wants to ‘turn the page’ now his brother Mathias has been sentenced for attempting to extort €13m from the player.

The plot revolves around two events March 2022 in Paris And July 2022 at the Juventus training camp in Turin.

On Thursday, a count in Paris sentenced Mathias Pogba to three years in prison, but two of those years are suspended and he is allowed to watch a year wearing an electronic bracelet.

This means Mathias will not be behind bars, but he has also been fined 20,000 euros.

The remaining five accused Extortion, kidnapping and participation in a criminal organization were punishable by up to eight years in prison.

Pogba released a statement after the sentencing

“There are no winners in this case involving my family members and people I’ve known since childhood.” Pogba said in a statement issued by his lawyer.

“I can finally turn the page on this very painful period. This conclusion is an opportunity for everyone to focus on the future.

“Now that the verdict is in, I can fully focus on returning to professional football.”

Pogba is a free agent after terminating his contract with Juventus by mutual consent and cannot resume playing until his 18-month ban for failing a doping test expires in March 2025.
