Scott Williams caused a bit of a stir in the 2025 runoff elections PDC World Darts Championships defeating the fifth seed Rob Krzyża 3-1 on Alexandra Palace. “Shaggy” can now face Ricardo Pietreczko in the last 32.
There were numerous incidents during his match with Cross. For starters, Williams was annoyed by the camera on stage while throwing for the opening set. “What put me off was that one of the cameras was moving while I was trying to get a double, and I saw it with my own eyes,” Williams later said of the incident. “I don’t know if this guy was new and didn’t know what he was doing. It kind of put me off and I wasn’t happy about it. I expressed my feelings and the matter was settled.” But I probably should have won it 3-0. I probably could have won 3-0. Whether I should do it is another matter. He (Cross) missed the doubles and gave me a chance, when you get a chance, you have to take it.”

Moreover, there was confusion at the end of the second set when Cross made a lewd gesture after losing the set 3-0. Cross later indicated that this was directed at his manager. Williams also declined to comment on Cross when asked about it at his post-match press conference.
“First of all, I wasn’t aware of anything. Secondly, whatever he did, I don’t really care. I just played with one of my best, closest mates for £10,000. Not many people have done it, so I don’t care about what he did,” said “Shaggy” after the match. “We talked before and we talked later. I love him and he’s great. We will see each other at Christmas and for the next few months, no matter what he does, and we will be exactly the same. I have to stop by his house to drop off Christmas presents for the kids, and I have to buy something for my kids. That’s how close we are. But I’m not here to be an asshole to someone who isn’t an asshole to me. He didn’t give it en masse. You have to do what you have to do, and if the person in front of you gives something, you give it back. It’s a difficult match.”
