With the PDC ProTour season set to begin in the coming weeks, many players will join in the cancellation of the tour, but many will actually leave. A total of 20 players will not return out of the 128 players who played last season.
PDC hired Richard Ashdown to analyze some of the new season’s key stats in anticipation of the Players Championship season.
Among the statistics highlighted by Ashdown are five famous names who have disappeared for the first time in 14 years. Steve Beaton has decided to leave the tour and will instead play the MODUS Super Series and World Seniors in a similar vein to Simon Whitlock, Vincent van der Voort and Mervyn King, although two of the three attempted to return to Q-School. A total of 31 players lost their Tour Cards and 23 attempted and failed to advance through Q-School.
Adrian Lewis nor will he return when the two-time world champion takes a sabbatical. Rowby-John Rodriguez has held a Tour Card for ten of the last 11 years, Jamie Hughes since 2019 and Adam Gawlas since 2021, who have not regained them. Geert Nentjes and Ronny Huybrechts also left the tour.
20 players will not return in 2025 Keegan Brown ending a 13-year streak, Josh Payne missed 12 seasons on the ProTour. Meanwhile, Jeffrey de Zwaan’s 10-year career at the top is coming to an end.
Lee Evans, Callum Goffin, Graham Hall, Daniel Klose, Robbie Knops, Jacques Labre, Arron Monk, Christian Perez, Owen Roelofs, Adam Smith-Neale, Jeffrey Sparidaans, Danny van Trijp, Graham Usher and Jurjen van der Velde also failed to do so do it. In turn, Leighton Bennett, Paul Krohne and Pascal Rupprecht were banned or decided to leave.
Certainly a season of change for the PDC Tour, with Beau Greaves also leading the Challenge Tour, meaning we will likely get some new Challenge Tour players to supplement the numbers of regular faces.
