Frankie Stringer and Mikie Tallon pick up wins in Liverpool

Liverpool – Lightweight Frankie Stringer vs. Natasha Jonas and Ivana Habazin at Exhibition Center for WBC and IBF Welterweight Earned a dominant 9-0 (1 KO) win over Tatenda Mangombe in a combined match, 3-9-1 (0 KO) in Liverpool, England.

Stringer had already dealt with the retreating Mangombe in the third round and once again sent his opponent stumbling with a left hook. The fourth set followed a similar pattern, with Stringer applying the pressure at the end of the fifth in hopes of ending the fight, however Mangombe survived the round and slumped to the bench with his face With a defeated look on his face.

Stringer’s pressure finally showed in the sixth and final round, when Mangombe fell to the canvas after a sickening body shot. He managed to beat the count, but Stringer pressed again, landing another powerful uppercut before the final bell. According to the judges’ scorecards, Stringer won 60-54.

Super flyweight rising star Mikie Tallon (6-0, 0 KO) relied on his outstanding performance to defeat Ben Norman (Benn Norman), who currently has a record of 7-7 (0 KO), with a score of 60-54. Norman).

Talon was aggressive from the start, targeting the body and knocking down Norman, who had just separated Hamza Uddin, with a well-aimed shot. Norman stood up and fought back in the second, but Talon still found his way to the body.

Talon continued his dominance in the fourth and landed a few uppercuts in the fifth, earning cheers from the home crowd. In the sixth, Tallon continued to hunt Norman’s body and appeared to injure him with his left hand, although it was ruled a tap.

Junior middleweight Cartwright moved forward in the opener, but Altohau didn’t shy away from his opponent and fired back-to-back shots towards the end of the round. The two-time British title challenger showed his class in the second frame as he rounded off the weak-footed Altohau before landing a heavy blow.

Cartwright came out firing in the fourth round, pinning Atohau in the corner and landing a vicious uppercut, but his opponent held on. The sixth and final round was the most interesting. Cartwright looked to stop Altohau but the Belarusian fought back heroically and scored on his own before the bell. Cartwright won 60-54 points.

Junior lightweight Jamie Devine, currently 6-0 (1 KO), scored a dominant victory over tenacious Jayro Fernando Duran (15- 34, 14 KOs). He used his size and length to overwhelm the smaller Duran early in the fight and ended the first round with a powerful right hook that sent his opponent staggering back.

Devine continued to apply pressure over the next two sessions, targeting the body first before turning his attacks to the head. The Isle of Man representative at the 2022 Commonwealth Games called for a timeout in the fourth quarter but a resilient Duran held on through some tough moments to hear the final bell. Devine won this game 40-36.
