Kai Gotthardt debuts in 2025 PDC World Darts Championships farewell Alan Soutar 3-1 in sets, having reached the last 16 in his last two appearances.
He missed the tournament last year, but “Soots” regained the ProTour title earlier this year en route to qualifying. However, after winning the first set, he was ejected by the winner of the PDC Europe Super League.
Soutar started well with a decisive shot of 76 in the deciding match to hand him the first set, with one of Gotthardt’s points strangely lost midway through the previous match. Ironically, this proved to be the catalyst for him to return to the expedition.

The German debutant finished the second set 3-1, restoring the balance with an average of 92.4, despite 13 missed doubles shots in the first two sets. Gotthardt, however, increased his average to 94, then reached the third set unanswered and went on the attack, leading 2-1. In the next set, Soutar was down 2-1, having scored 111 points, after Gotthardt took a 2-0 lead.
But after many failed attempts it was 2-2. Soutar finally crossed the line and forced a tiebreaker. He made 180, which looked like he had the advantage as he went down to 144. Gotthardt, however, shot 134 to get down to 90, and with Soutar lacking a chance to force a deciding set, Gotthardt fell to 11 before he finally got his shot over the line and sealed the victory double deuce.
