West Indies captain Hayley Matthews believes the auction will not be a distraction. “I don’t think too many of us are taking it too seriously. We obviously know we’re playing tomorrow but we’ve got a very important T20 game. That’s definitely the first priority,” she said on Saturday.

“It would be great if a few girls are picked up. I think we can get more players to participate in such tournaments and it will be better for the team,” Ma, who plays for Mumbai Indians in the WPL Hughes said.
The Windies produced some commendable performances in the shortest format but lost to New Zealand in the Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals, and Matthews believes some teams may be keen to pick some of her teammates.
“Especially like the World Cup we just had, it really opened a lot of eyes to the West Indian girls and what they are capable of,” Matthews said. He added: “We’re all going to be very focused on the competition and then if someone comes through the draft ( sic), there will be some cheers and smiles.”
