“I can’t believe it!” – Luke Littler (17) makes history as youngest ever PDC World Darts Championship winner

After a truly dominant performance, Littler took an early 4-0 lead, and although “Mighty Mike” eventually entered the contest and was down three sets, the truth is that Littler’s inevitable title victory never really seemed in danger. Moments after he scored a double 16 points and was crowned world champion, an emotional Littler spoke to a Sky Sports reporter Abigail Davies give him an immediate reaction.

“I can’t believe it! Honestly, I can’t believe it,” the beaming 17-year-old pitching sensation began. “We both played very well. I said in interviews that I had to start quickly and that’s what I did. Michael was behind me the whole match. Those shots from behind cover where he hit two high notes and I had to come back with two or three, he was right behind me the whole way. Everyone dreams of lifting this trophy, but you have to overcome difficult conditions.

Although Littler is only 17 years old and competing in his second PDC World Darts Championship, he has no shortage of experience on the big stage. Before the final, he said he “knew what he did wrong” after last year’s final defeat and after the match. He again referred to his fairytale performance on debut, which gave him the required experience to take the next step this time.

“I learned a lot. Last year in the semi-final against Rob Cross I was 1-0 down for the first time and then of course I lost to Luke. [Humphries]”, he explains. “No one will know this, but earlier today I watched the entire match against Luke [Humphries] and I had visions.”

So, as he steps into the role of world champion in the 2025 season commercials, it seems that nothing stands in Littler’s way. “Anything can happen! I could end 2025 without winning absolutely anything, but I would win the best trophy,” he announces. “I want to win more than 10 titles this year, but if I end 2025 with nothing, I will choose the most important one.”
