Part of John is one of the greatest names in darts history. Now the 58-year-old Canadian and three-time world champion is trying to get his PDC Tour Card back this week Q School.
Part, who lost his Tour Card in early 2019, is now actively working as a commentator for Sky Sports. Just like at the previous World Darts Championships, where he enjoyed the final between Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen. “Van Gerwen obviously wasn’t at his best from the start of the match, but he kind of started working. He lost four sets in quite a big hole and he gave it his all, it was obvious that Michael did it. However, Luke managed to almost match Michael in every major way,” says Part in the latest episode of Weekly Dartscast. “
Just before the start of the World Darts Championships Donna, wife Wayne Mardledied. Mardle, alongside Part, has been one of the regular voices on Sky Sports for many years, but there was a noticeable omission from this year’s broadcast. “Overall, it was just incredibly difficult. Just forget about darts. Just get to know Wayne and Donna and know what they meant to each other and how they function together in life. It’s just very sad and yes, it’s a very difficult time in their lives. in this sense,” Part wonders. “I think everyone involved in the broadcast felt very depressed and maybe not as motivated. But you know, it all starts and then you get into it and of course darts is a great tonic for the soul in many ways. It kind of brings you back to life and we continued the game without Wayne, but certainly with Wayne in our hearts and we all look forward to his return.”
John Part became world champion three times in his career
Q School
As previously mentioned, Part returns to Q-School again this year in hopes of securing a fairy-tale return to the PDC Pro Tour. “I wouldn’t mind playing in the World Championships again and I’ll see what I can do. I was inspired by an old friend there, Paul Lim and we know that he reached the WDF finals at the age of 70. So I feel a bit lazy if, at 58, I don’t at least try!”
Ted Evetts, Kai Gotthardt and David Cameron were among the final 16 players to advance to the final stage of the PDC qualifying schools on Tuesday.
