Gerwyn’s price started 2025 impressively PDC World Darts Championships campaign on Monday evening. The former world champion easily defeated the Irish youngster Keane Barry 3-0 to secure a return to Ally Pally after Christmas.
After a quiet year for the Welshman, Price headed to Alexandra Palace as the tenth seed and slightly under the radar. Although he was far from his best against Barry, an average of just over 91 was enough for Price to get off to a winning start while “Dynamite” struggled in the outer ring, missing 22 darts on the double.

“I know how well I can play. I just want to prove to myself that I still have it,” Price said determinedly in his post-match press conference then. “I’ve gained confidence from performing at shows over the last few weeks, but this is where I want to perform, on the biggest stages, at the biggest events. I was under a lot of pressure today because I wanted to go home and enjoy Christmas after winning, and for me the tournament really starts at that moment.
When he returns after Christmas, Price will have Joe Cullen, Wessel Nijman or Cameron Carolissen lying in wait, so his average will likely need to be improved. “Joe didn’t have the best of years. Wessel plays really well. I think he beat me twice in the last three or four games, but I probably didn’t have the best confidence then,” Price recalls. “I mean, I’m easy to beat when I’m down, but beat me when I’m at my best!”
Due to a quieter 2024 for Price – Iceman didn’t even reach the major quarterfinals – few expect the former world champion to be part of the 2025 tournament Dart Premier League composition. Price himself had previously wanted to rule himself out of the competition, but in recent weeks it appears something has changed. After a pre-World Cup story appeared on Instagram that boosted his Premier League chances, Price became positive again after winning the first round.
“There are a lot of good players there and if I don’t get into the Premier League it will be because someone else deserves it. But you know, if I have a good streak at it, I’ll go for it and we’ll see what happens,” Price concluded. – I think I’m already in.
