Kevin Doets“Fairy tale w PDC World Darts Championships has come to an end. The 26-year-old Dutchman lost in the round of 16 to Chris Dobey 4-3 at the Alexandra Palace Stadium.
Doets continued to take a 3-2 lead in sets, but ultimately was stuck with an 88.17 average and only 30% in doubles. “Does it suck? It was just bad. These last two sets were really dramatic. I totally screwed it up,” Doets said AD.nl.
Maybe all these emotions overwhelmed him? “What did all these World Cups unleash? Too many. Or, well. Not necessarily too much, but a lot,” he says.

Everything empty
Over the past few days, Doets has been inundated with messages and congratulations on his strong performance in the world championships. “So much news and positivity. It’s good for my confidence, but now I’m completely empty. On Sunday, I heard that I had to play my first match on Monday afternoon. Then I thought: Damn, this is annoying. I also went to bed at 9:30 and slept for eight hours, but I woke up this morning and I was still very tired, I don’t know why either.
So “Hawkeye” doesn’t have to spend too much time thinking about what he mainly wants to do in the coming days. “Sleep,” he says. “Now I will ask my manager to book a flight back to Sweden (where he lives with his girlfriend Jaqueline and son Aiden), but not in the morning. First I will sleep and then I will enjoy my baby.
How does Doets look back on his world championships now? “You’ll sign it early because it’ll be the first time I’ve made it to the last 16 at the tournament, but I really could have won. Dobey is in his best shape in the World Championships, but so am I. He didn’t throw a spectacular shot, but I just couldn’t do it. Proud? It will come tomorrow, not yet.
