Josh Rock he says he’ll be ready for Chris Dobey on one of his first cruises PDC World Darts Championships he managed to cope without the pressure that was put on him two years ago.
Rock has gone from an anointed son in the Luke Littler mold to bad TV with many pointing to Rhys Griffin winning, but he’s crossed the line and now returns after Christmas to take on “Hollywood”.

“It was terrifying. I wasn’t great at all. I put myself under too much pressure. I really wanted to be here after Christmas, spending hours training with Scott Williams, Rob Cross and Stowe Buntz. So I did it. I’ve been here for a week, I’m glad Rhys didn’t play his game and I crossed the line,” Rock said after the match.
“After Christmas it will be very different because obviously you are fielding Chris Dobey, one of the best players in the world. I’ll be ready for Chris Dobey because I have to. If I play like that, I have no chance, but I’ll be ready.”
“If you look at my TV form, I’m averaging almost 100 points every game, but the people I play with are averaging 100 points. So I just had no luck. As long as I can hit doubles, I’ll be hard to beat.”
“Me and Chris always play well. He hits a lot of 180s and I will be ready to hit a lot of 180s.”
He said he saw an opportunity and that his main goal was simply to be there after Christmas.
“The first game was probably the hardest game I’ve ever played because I put a lot of pressure on myself because I wanted to be here after Christmas. But I’m just grateful that I crossed the line.”
“My TV form continues throughout the year, but I made sure that didn’t happen, that’s the most important thing. This is a huge opportunity. I wasn’t watching how far it would go because everyone was leaving, but these are happy days. “
But the fact that he also sees progress from no place in the rankings to being outside the top 16, and that he never expected it, is a bonus.
“I stopped being unranked at number 18 in the world. I don’t know where I am now after this victory. But what I’ve done for my own self-confidence is phenomenal because I didn’t think I would be here today to be where I am now.”
