Inter Miami CF forward business Leonardo Campana from New England Revolution $2.5 million in general allocation money split between 2025 and 2026, for one 2025 international roster slot and one 2026 international roster slot.
The deal announced Thursday breaks Major League Soccer’s record for the most expensive insider trade, set in January 2022 when FC Dallas acquired Paul Arreola from DC United for $2 million in guaranteed GAM and $300,000 in conditional GAM.
As part of the move, Inter Miami will retain a percentage of any future moves for Campana and receive up to $750,000 in GAM if the player meets certain performance-based incentives.
“Leo has been a key player for Inter Miami for the last three years. His contribution in attack was a historic period in which we won our first two titles. We are grateful for his contribution at an important time in the growth of our club. And we wish him all the best in the future,” said Football. “The general appropriation will help us strengthen our roster for the 2025 season,” said Raul Sanlehi, president of operations.
Campana left Inter Miami with 32 goals and 10 assists in 100 appearances in all competitions. In two years, he became the team’s second all-time leading scorer and one of three players in Inter Miami history to reach the 100-appearance milestone.
According to sources, the deal to trade Campana was motivated by hard work MLS Listing rules. The forward has been an integral player at Inter Miami, but his current contract with the club complicates compliance with league rules for the Herons.
Campana helped Inter Miami win the inaugural League Cup title in 2023 and the Supporters’ Shield in 2024, while playing a role in the team’s league record for most points recorded in a single season in 2024.
Prior to the deal, the league announced that Inter Miami’s general allocation money was $3,300,159.
Inter Miami has launched the 2025 MLS season with one match against New York City FC Feb. 22 at Chase Stadium. The team will also take part in preseason friendlies against Orlando City FC Liga MX Giant America, and will play a CONCACAF Champions Cup match Sporting Kansas City Before the regular season starts.
