The year 2025 PDC World Darts Championships ends tonight at Alexandra Palace in London. The Sid Waddell trophy is at stake. Łukasz Małyr AND Michael van Gerwen will fight in one of the most anticipated World Championship finals in the history of darting.
In the atmosphere of Van Gerwen’s first world final, when he faced the legendary Phil Taylor in 2013, this time the roles of the Dutchman were reversed. From the new kid on the block more than a decade ago, Van Gerwen is now a seasoned legend looking to fend off the charge of the new donor power. Taylor achieved this against MvG in 2013, winning 7-4. Can Van Gerwen delay Littler’s seemingly inevitable coronation for another year?

According to Part of Johnhimself a three-time World Darts Championship winner, a fourth world title and the surrounding circumstances for Van Gerwen may have been the sweetest victory of the Dutchman’s career. “This is Van Gerwen’s big dream. He has been trying to win his fourth world title for a long time,” the Canadian legend analyzed for Sky Sports. “He hears a lot of negative talk and it drives him, it inspires him to actually silence every critic. He’s been in the game for a long time and I think it would give him strength for the next decade. It would mean the world to him.”
As Part notes, fireworks are also a certainty during the Van Gerwen finals and the World Darts Championships. “We’re looking forward to playing nine darts, and the finals are perfect for that!” “Darth Maple” smiles. “We saw it a few years ago with Michael Smith and Michael van Gerwen.”
But in Van Gerwen fashion, it’s a tall order for 17-year-old darts sensation Luke Littler, who is already in his second PDC World Darts Championship final after losing to Luke Humphries twelve months ago. “Littler is getting better with each match and will be hoping for his best performance in the final,” Part adds in “The Nuke.”
