Rob Cross captured his first New Year tournament win. Tension defeated Stephen Bunting 8-5 in the final Dutch Darts Masters. For the latter, it remains just one tournament victory this year, after being tops at the Bahrain Darts Masters last week;
However, Cross arrived in Den Bosch with necessary doubts. In the last World Darts Championship, he immediately lost the opening match 3-1 to Scott Williams. Last week at the opening tournament World Series of Darts 2025 went straight against Filipino Paolo Nebrida;
The 34-year-old may currently be the world number four, but he himself indicated before this tournament that he is not currently in his best form. The tournament’s victory was therefore a surprise.
“It’s amazing to come here and win – it’s special for me,” Cross said. “I think it’s about time I won in Holland and I’m very grateful – the crowd were brilliant. Determination and focus that got me through today.

Cross also had kind words to say for his opponent. “Stephen is a great person and a credit to the sport. He did all the work today, he got there and they probably ran out of steam.
“Coming here and winning this means so much. It was a great weekend and I really enjoyed it and I love the World Series.”
Thus, he moves into the first PDC major of the new season, the Winmau World Masters, with confidence. A week later he will also be in action on the first day of Premier League Darts.
