Despite rumors that he will be traded to the New York Rangers, JT Miller is taking a firm stance on his love for the Vancouver Canucks.

JT Miller ‘remains focused’ despite New York Rangers trade rumors

After recording two assists in the Canucks’ 3-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers, Miller was asked about his current situation and future in Vancouver.

The 31-year-old center said: “I’m not going to discuss it. I plan to be a Canuck today and tomorrow. Whatever happens, happens. I’m focused on the next game.

“I don’t know if there’s anything going on. Just trying to focus on the game. You’re playing the Oilers tonight and have a matchup assignment, which is probably good, try to keep my focus.”

Reports of a possible trade to the New York Rangers have begun circulating since Miller was nearly removed from the starting lineup against the Oilers.

Miller joined Vancouver in June 2019 after being traded from the Tampa Bay Lighting, and signed a seven-year contract in September 2022 that will earn the Americans $8 million per year (56 million total Dollar).

The deal comes after a stellar year for Miller, who set an NHL career high at the time with 99 points (32G and 67A) in 2021-22.

The Vancouver star remains a key member of the team with eight goals and 23 assists in 35 games so far in his sixth season.

In November 2024, the 31-year-old took a personal leave and missed 10 games before returning in mid-December.

Miller commented on his absence and decided not to “dive into the details” of why he will miss 10 games between November and December of 2024.

He said: “I’m going to play tonight and I’d really appreciate it if we could get away from the reason for my absence.

“I’m not going to get into the reasons why I’ve been out the last three or four weeks. So, I’m with the team and I’m ready to look forward to what’s going to happen in the future and not necessarily what’s happened in the past.”

Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes commented on the possibility of Miller being traded to the New York Rangers after their win over the Oilers.

Hughes said: “I think that’s part of my job – to be aware of things like this and have a good feel for what’s going on. But through everything, I thought everyone played great, especially Millsey.

“I thought the way he fought against that line, especially in the third quarter, he was really competitive. He’s a gamer, so it was good to see him.

“Over the last few years, six years, he’s been a guy who’s always competed, shown up, passionate, cared a lot. You know, when two of the three best players in the world (McDavid) “When Leon Draisaitl comes to town, he’s going to be ready to go and he wants to take on the challenge.”
