Colombia international James Rodriguez signed a contract with Liga MX’s LeonMexican club announced on Monday.
Recently a free agent after terminating his contract with Rayo Vallecano – who initially signed James in August – the 33-year-old will now join León as they start their 2025 Clausura season on January 18.
“Rayo Vallecano de Madrid and Club Leon of Mexico have reached an agreement on the transfer of James Rodriguez,” the Spanish club said in a statement.
They did not provide any details of the transaction.
“From the club, we wish James all the best in his new phase,” the club added.
Eight-time Mexican champion León posted several photos of Rodriguez on his social media accounts, but also did not provide any details of the deal.
In June, León will then take part in the Club World Cup, starting with group stage matches against ChelseaEsperance de Tunis and Flamengo.
Colombian’s move to Mexico this is his sixth team since 2021, after playing in Rayo Vallecano, São Paulo, Olympiakos, Al-Rayyan and Everton in recent years.
At the beginning of his career, the winner of the Golden Boot in the 2014 World Cup was known for his high-profile runs by European giants such as: Real Madrid AND Bayern Munich. The midfielder also played for Envigado, Banfield, Porto and Monaco.
In Colombia, Rodriguez scored 29 goals in 112 appearances, including a successful performance at last year’s matches America’s Cup where his team lost to Argentina in the final.
León also made headlines on Sunday as a former Mexican international Andres Guardado he suggested coming out of retirement after announcing “I’m back” on social media.
